Is Fiverr Worth It For Hiring?

If you are looking to hire a freelancer for your business you might have heard of Fiverr. Fiverr is a hiring platform that allows you to connect with freelancers. But is Fiverr worth it for hiring?

Is Fiverr Worth It For Hiring?

Yes, Fiverr is absolutely worth it for hiring. While there can be some challenges with using Fiverr (which we will address) at the end of the day the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Do Fiverr freelancers produce pro-level work?

One myth about Fiverr is that Fiverr sellers produce low-quality work. This is not necessarily true. There are many Fiverr sellers who produce pro-level work. High-quality work can come from affordable freelancers. Quality does not always correspond with price.

How does Fiverr work?

There are two main ways you can connect with freelancers on Fiverr: browsing gigs and posting requests.

Gigs

Fiverr is what we call a “gig marketplace”. Freelancers are able to sell their services in “packages”. Hiring a freelancer through the gig marketplace is a similar experience to buying a sweater from an online store. You are able to browse through portfolios and select the freelancer that fits your needs the most. Finding a freelancer via gigs can be a great option if you want a small, common project done. For example, if you wanted a book cover for an ebook, it might be easier to browse through gigs to find the right cover designer for you.

Posting A Request

Posting a request is very similar to posting a position on a job board. This allows freelancers to see what you are looking for and then apply directly to the job. Posting a request can make more sense if you have a more complicated project you need done.

Is it better to post a request or hire via the gig marketplace?

If you are going to be hiring Fiverr freelancers often, it’s best to experiment with both options: posting a request and hiring via the gig marketplace.

If you are looking for a specific work style or skill set, it might be easier for you to browse gigs. For example, if you are planning to hire an illustrator or graphic designer, it might be easier to identify the right candidate by looking through the portfolios of experienced sellers. Gigs can be a great option if you are more flexible on your budget. If you set your price too low on a request posting, then many highly qualified candidates will likely refrain from applying.

If you are on a strict budget, posting a request might be a better option for you. You can specifically state in the request posting that you are not willing to increase the amount you are able to pay. This will prevent you from wasting time contacting freelancers who are out of your budget.

Posting a request can also be better if you aren’t quite sure what you are looking for. Having candidates present you with their portfolios and responses to your request might be just what you need to clarify your thoughts about the project.

Now that we’ve talked about the two ways of connecting with freelancers, let’s walk through some of the pros and cons of hiring on Fiverr.

Pros of Hiring on Fiverr

Hiring freelancers can be more affordable.

There are many benefits that come with hiring a freelancer as opposed to a salaried employee. Hiring a freelancer eliminates costly onboarding. Using freelancers can also save you money on taxes. You will be able to just pay freelancers for the work you need done. Paying per hour or per project can save a lot of money when compared to paying a set salary. Even if you are paying a freelancer the same as a salaried employee, you will still probably be saving thousands.

Fiverr allows for geographic flexibility.

This is one of the key reasons you can hire pro freelancers for a lower cost. For example, a professional-level graphic designer living in Thailand is often going to charge a fraction of the price compared to a professional graphic designer based out of the U.S. Many pro freelancers are willing to take a pay cut in order to have completely remote jobs.

Fiverr pro offers the opportunity to connect with highly skilled freelancers.

It is a myth that Fiverr can only be used for simple jobs. There are many pro freelancers who are able to complete complex tasks. After contacting them, they will be able to provide you with a custom quote for your project.

Cons of Hiring on Fiverr

You might not find a good freelancer right away.

Sometimes people get lucky with the hiring process and find an amazing freelancer right off the bat. However, more often than not finding the perfect freelancer for you is going to take some trial and error. This is going to be true of any freelancing platform you use.

Highly skilled, high-quality work doesn’t come cheaply.

Fiverr can be a great place to find freelancers to help with all aspects of your business. For simple tasks like arranging your calendar and making appointments for you, it is possible to find high-quality candidates in the $5 range. If you want some highly skilled work done, though, you are going to have to pay more for hiring a pro.

In some cases, you are going to want to spend more money for a better outcome. For example, if you hire a writer with broken English to write your advertising copy, people might assume your business is a scam or illegitimate. Not only will this ad fail to attract customers, but it might also make you lose some of your current customers.

Go ahead and hire on Fiverr!

Hiring can be a stressful part of any business. Though you need to screen freelancers appropriately, Fiverr’s benefits ultimately outweigh its downsides. Hiring on Fiverr will help your bottom line. If you find a freelancer you love, it’s also potentially possible to build a long-term relationship with them. They could help your business with similar projects down the line!
